Boutique college Essay coaching

I’m Annie, a writer, editor, and college consultant. I’m a Baltimore native and Bryn Mawr school alum who received her B.A. in English from Tufts University and her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. I’ve supported writing in a wide range of settings and with a huge diversity of students, from teaching 8th grade English in rural New Mexico through Teach for America to tutoring at university writing centers. I also worked at a literary agency in New York, where I read yet-to-be-published manuscripts and provided editorial feedback. Since completing my MFA, I’ve focused exclusively on helping students with their college applications, and I love the work.
As a college essay coach, my students have been accepted into Dartmouth, Cornell, Bowdoin, Tufts, Berkeley, UCLA, WashU, University of Southern California, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Michigan, and elsewhere.
What I do:
Personalized 1-on-1 coaching
I will work with you from day 1, before your pen even hits the paper, to help you tell your story in a clear, compelling, and meaningful way.
Tailored support and feedback
One of the most important parts of my job is making you, the student, feel empowered and reassured. I will meet you where you are, working to alleviate your stress, not add to it.
Growth-mindset editing
My goal is not only to build a great essay, but to build up a great writer. By the time our work is through, you will have developed writing skills that will last you through college and into the rest of your life.
Comprehensive services
I will work with you on every part of your application, from the all-important common app essay to the supplemental questions specific to each school. Our goal is to make your application not just excellent, but consistently so.
Kind Words:
“I’m so grateful that I had an editor like Annie who genuinely cared, and who had so many interesting and unique ideas for essays. I was originally quite insecure about applying to college because I didn’t have the strongest academics, but I became more confident knowing that my essays would be a highlight of my application. Not only did I get into my dream school, but I feel like I’ve grown as a writer. It feels great knowing that I’m genuinely proud of the writing I submitted to NYU.”

Annie helped our daughter write compelling and successful college applications. But well beyond that, Annie helped her find her voice, see beauty in her life stories, and gain confidence in her writing skills. Annie coaches with a style that is methodical, engaging, supportive, practical, and calming. This influence dramatically reduced our child’s anxiety and made the application process feel manageable. After working with Annie, our daughter is proud of her submittals, more confident in her storytelling, and overjoyed to be accepted ED to WashU.

“Working with Annie was the perfect solution to help our daughter meet her goals and deadlines for the college application process. Annie provided an all virtual experience which aligned with our daughter’s busy schedule. The environment was nurturing and safe, and Annie was able to provide immediate feedback through screen sharing and file sharing. Annie’s schedule was very flexible and she made sure she was available and responsive when my daughter struggled with her college application essays. Annie invested time focusing on my daughter’s goals, interests, history, and passions, which allowed Annie to suggest very specific ideas and feedback and increased our daughter’s productivity. Our daughter is now a proud Jumbo at Tufts University!”
